Gorakhpur, Dec 29: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed officials to speed up the construction work of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Training Academy being built in Gorakhpur, saying the project must be completed within the fixed deadline without any compromise on quality. The chief minister said the academy would play an important role in building discipline, leadership, and a sense of national service among the youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The chief minister inspected the under-construction academy at Tal Kandala in Gorakhpur district. During his visit, he reviewed the project model and design drawings, examined the ongoing construction work, and assessed the overall progress at the site. He also interacted with officials and representatives of the executing agency, giving clear instructions to ensure faster work and regular monitoring. Speaking to the media after the inspection, Yogi Adityanath said the NCC Training Academy would become a source of pride not only for Gorakhpur but for the entire eastern region of the state. He stressed that strict standards must be followed in construction and warned against delays. “There should be no compromise on quality or timelines. The work must move at a faster pace so that the academy is completed on time,” the chief minister said. The chief minister specifically instructed officials to ensure timely construction of all key facilities, including hostels for cadets, staff residences, and the mess facility. He also directed the district administration to regularly monitor the project to avoid any slowdown and ensure smooth progress. According to officials present at the site, nearly 60 percent of the construction work has already been completed. The NCC Training Academy is being built at an estimated cost of ₹47.88 crore. The foundation stone for the project was laid by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on March 9, 2024. Construction work began in June 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by June 2026. Officials assured the chief minister that efforts are being made to meet the deadline as instructed. Once completed, the academy will have modern infrastructure to support NCC training activities. Planned facilities include an administrative building, a boys’ hostel with accommodation for 150 cadets, and a girls’ hostel with a capacity of 100 cadets. The campus will also have a dining hall, toilet blocks, an electrical substation, and an outdoor multi-activity area. In addition, a 50-metre outdoor shooting range and a drill practice track will be developed to support physical and tactical training. The NCC Gorakhpur Group, which will benefit from the academy, operates under the motto “Unity and Discipline.” It represents 11 districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, and Bahraich. Cadets from these districts currently participate in training programs conducted at various locations. Every year, NCC cadets from affiliated schools, colleges, and universities take part in around 25 to 30 training camps. These include combined annual training camps, army attachment camps, inter-group competitions, Republic Day parade preparations, and social service activities. Officials said the new academy will provide a permanent and well-equipped training centre, making it easier to conduct these programs efficiently. By pushing for faster completion of the project, the chief minister made it clear that the state government sees the NCC academy as a long-term investment in youth development.
