PM Modi Shares Special Moments With Peacocks, Punganur Cows

New Delhi, August 16, 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared a glimpse of his Independence Day morning, highlighting a quieter and more personal moment before his official engagements. In a video posted on Instagram, the Prime Minister was seen feeding peacocks and spending time with indigenous Punganur cows at his official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The video captured PM Modi feeding the small-sized cows with fodder and gently petting them. He was also seen feeding grains to the peacocks with his own hands. According to the Prime Minister, the animals appeared to realise that he would be leaving earlier than usual to attend the Independence Day programme at the Red Fort. He said that before departing for the national ceremony, they came to meet him. Sharing the video on Instagram, PM Modi wrote, “Every morning feeding my ‘friends’ is part of my daily routine. Yesterday morning (15th August), they somehow sensed that I was leaving early, so they came to meet me as I was leaving for the Red Fort. As always, it was special.” The Prime Minister has frequently been seen interacting with peacocks during his morning walks and exercise sessions on the lawns of his residence. His official residence also houses rare indigenous Punganur cattle, a breed associated with Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district. Known for their compact size, Punganur cows are considered among the smallest cattle breeds in the world, with their height generally ranging between 70 and 90 centimetres. The latest video offered another glimpse into PM Modi's routine away from formal political and national engagements. His interaction with the animals on Independence Day morning added a personal touch to a day otherwise marked by official ceremonies and national celebrations.
