Lucknow | December 17, 2025 Uttar Pradesh is moving steadily towards its goal of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday while reviewing the progress of key government initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth. He stated that the state is on the right track and has strong potential to accelerate further with focused and timely action. Chairing a high-level review meeting in Lucknow, the chief minister conducted a detailed, department-wise assessment of ongoing programmes linked to the ambitious economic target. He directed ministers and senior officials to speed up implementation and ensure better coordination across departments to achieve the desired outcomes within set timelines. During the meeting, the CM also reviewed the utilisation of budget allocations by various departments for the financial year 2025–26. Officials informed him that Uttar Pradesh’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) currently stands at ₹29.78 lakh crore. They added that the state’s share in the national economy has increased to 9% in 2024–25, up from 8.6% in 2022–23. According to officials, nearly 93% of the GSDP target has already been achieved under the present government’s leadership. Efforts are now underway to raise the GSDP to around ₹42 lakh crore, which would bring the state significantly closer to the one-trillion-dollar economy milestone. The chief minister instructed ministers to hold monthly reviews of department-specific initiatives related to the economic goal. He further directed the chief secretary to conduct fortnightly reviews, while additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and heads of departments were asked to monitor progress on a weekly basis. He stressed that regular monitoring and accountability are essential to maintain momentum. Emphasising efficiency, Adityanath asked officials to ensure quality reviews of projects and timely completion of all assigned work. He also directed departments to speed up file disposal and avoid unnecessary delays in decision-making. The CM highlighted the importance of real-time data and instructed officials to promptly upload progress details of departmental work. He also asked the planning department to set up a strong system to collect weekly data from all departments to help track performance more accurately. Adityanath underlined the need for close coordination with the central government to ensure timely release of the Centre’s share of funds. He directed officials to spend allocated budgets within the stipulated timeframes to avoid bottlenecks and ensure smooth execution of development schemes. Speaking about agriculture, the chief minister said Uttar Pradesh contributes 21% to the country’s total foodgrain production. He noted that ensuring food and nutrition security, while also increasing farmers’ income, remains a top priority for the government. He added that the state’s agricultural growth rate has remained above 13%, reflecting the impact of focused policies and support measures. On road safety, Adityanath said reducing accidents is a key concern, especially during foggy conditions. He instructed the transport department to hold a comprehensive review meeting and take concrete steps to improve safety. He also called for rationalisation of registration fees for commercial vehicles and expansion of quality bus services to make travel safer and more convenient for the public. Tourism was also discussed during the meeting. The CM said Uttar Pradesh has seen a record rise in tourist arrivals in recent years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Officials said around 125 crore tourists visited the state till June this year, giving a major boost to the local economy. On social welfare, Adityanath directed officials to set district-wise targets under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana. He suggested that part of the financial assistance be given in advance to beneficiaries for preparations, with the remaining amount provided at the time of the wedding. He also asked officials to fast-track the setting up of digital libraries at the gram panchayat level and ensure that the computers provided meet required standards.
