Imphal | 4 Feb 2026 Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur on Wednesday, marking the end of President’s Rule in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader took oath a day after being elected as the party’s legislature leader, with two deputy chief ministers from the Naga and Kuki-Zo communities also taking oath. Earlier in the day, the Union Home Ministry issued a notification stating that President’s Rule, which had been in place since February 2025, was revoked with immediate effect. “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (2) of Article 356 of the Constitution, I, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, hereby revoke the Proclamation issued by me under the said article on the 13th day of February, 2025, in relation to the State of Manipur, with effect from the 4th day of February, 2026,” the notification read. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Lok Bhavan in Imphal, witnessed Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA from the Mao assembly constituency, Losi Dikho, taking oath as deputy chief minister. Kuki-Zo BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen from Kangpokpi took oath as the second deputy chief minister via video conferencing from New Delhi. BJP legislator K Govindas and National People’s Party (NPP) MLA Kh Loken were sworn in as cabinet ministers. The event was attended by opposition MLAs, senior political leaders including former chief ministers N Biren Singh, O Ibobi Singh, and R K Radhabinod, along with high-ranking police officials and bureaucrats. The development comes after a political crisis that began on May 3, 2023, forcing N Biren Singh to resign in February 2025 and leading to the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. The ceremony also saw BJP legislator K Govindas and National People’s Party MLA Kh Loken taking oath as cabinet ministers. Senior politicians, opposition MLAs, former chief ministers, police officials, and bureaucrats attended the event, highlighting the political importance of the moment.
