Two of India’s Most Wanted Gangsters Arrested Abroad, Including Bishnoi Gang Member
New Delhi, November 9, 2025 Indian security agencies have scored a major success with the arrest of two of the country’s most wanted gangsters operating overseas. Venkatesh Garg, a Haryana resident, was apprehended in Georgia with the help of Haryana Police officials, while Bhanu Rana, linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was arrested in the United States. Both men are expected to be deported to India soon to face pending criminal cases. Venkatesh Garg, originally from Narayangarh in Haryana, has over ten criminal cases registered against him in India. He fled abroad after being implicated in the murder of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader in Gurugram. While in Georgia, Garg continued running an extortion and recruitment network alongside Kapil Sangwan, another gangster residing overseas. Earlier this year, Delhi Police arrested four shooters connected to Sangwan who were involved in attacks on a builder’s house and farmhouse. Security agencies say Garg has been actively recruiting youth from Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and neighboring states to strengthen his criminal operations abroad. Bhanu Rana, originally from Karnal, has been living in the United States for several years. He is a known member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and has a long history of criminal activity spanning Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi. His name surfaced during investigations into a grenade attack in Punjab. In June, the Special Task Force (STF) in Karnal arrested two men found with hand grenades, pistols, and ammunition; the men were reportedly acting under Rana’s orders. The recent operations to capture Garg and Rana have provided authorities with crucial insights into the way these gangsters operate internationally. Officials say many Indian gangsters currently living abroad continue to recruit youth back home and coordinate criminal activities from overseas, posing challenges to law enforcement. The arrests are expected to deal a significant blow to the Bishnoi gang and other criminal networks with international reach. Agencies have highlighted that cooperation with foreign authorities, along with intelligence sharing, played a critical role in bringing these fugitives to justice. Authorities have stressed that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to track and prosecute Indian gangsters operating abroad. Over two dozen major gangsters are currently believed to be living outside India, many of whom continue to run criminal syndicates while recruiting new members in the country. Law enforcement officials have also noted that investigations are ongoing to trace the full extent of the overseas networks of Garg, Rana, and their associates. The arrests signal a renewed commitment by Indian security agencies to curb cross-border crime and dismantle organized gangs with international connections. The government has assured that both men will face strict legal action once they are brought back to India, underlining the seriousness with which authorities are tackling organized crime at home and abroad.
