Patna, November 11, 2025 Voting began early Tuesday morning for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, covering 122 constituencies spread across 20 districts. Polling opened at 7:00 am and will continue until 6:00 pm, allowing voters to cast their ballots across more than 45,000 polling stations set up throughout the state. According to the Election Commission, around 3.7 crore voters are eligible to vote in this phase, including over 1.95 crore men, 1.74 crore women, and 943 third-gender voters. To ensure inclusivity and accessibility, the commission has set up 595 all-women polling booths, 316 model polling stations, and 91 managed by persons with disabilities (PwD). This phase is particularly important as it will determine the fate of 12 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet. Key Janata Dal (United) candidates include Vijendra Yadav from Supaul, Lesi Singh from Dhamdaha, and Jayant Kushwaha from Amarpur. On the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) side, prominent names contesting include Prem Kumar from Gaya, Renu Devi from Bettiah, and Nitish Mishra from Jhanjharpur. The elections are also witnessing interesting local battles. In Sasaram, Snehlata Kushwaha, wife of Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha, is contesting as an NDA candidate against RJD’s Satendra Sah. In Imamganj, Deepa Kumari from Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) is taking on Mahagathbandhan’s Ritu Priya Chaudhary, while Jan Suraaj’s Ajeet Kumar is also in the fray. Other high-profile constituencies include Bhagalpur, where Congress MLA Ajeet Sharma faces BJP’s Rohit Pandey and Jan Suraaj’s Abhay Kant Jha; and Mohania, where BJP’s Sangita Kumari, formerly with the RJD, is contesting against an independent backed by Mahagathbandhan. Polling officials across Bihar reported smooth operations, with mock polling conducted earlier in the day to ensure preparedness. Presiding Officer Anand Kumar from Bhagalpur said arrangements were complete and voter turnout was expected to be strong. In Nagrota (Jammu and Kashmir), Assistant Returning Officer Sumit Kohli said 150 polling booths had been set up and urged people to vote early. Apart from Bihar, bye-elections are being held simultaneously in eight constituencies across six states and one Union Territory—including Budgam and Nagrota (J&K), Anta (Rajasthan), Ghatsila (Jharkhand), Jubilee Hills (Telangana), Tarn Taran (Punjab), Dampa (Mizoram), and Nuapada (Odisha). The first phase of the Bihar elections saw a record voter turnout of 65.08 percent, the highest in the state’s electoral history. With both the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan alliance claiming momentum from that phase, all eyes are now on today’s results to see which side maintains the edge as Bihar moves closer to deciding its next government.
