NEW DELHI, Nov 26 - The Government’s nationwide constitutional awareness movement has entered a stronger and more expansive phase, with the Ministry of Law and Justice highlighting major achievements from the year-long campaign. What began as ‘Hamara Samvidhan – Hamara Samman’ in January 2024 has now grown into ‘Hamara Samvidhan – Hamara Swabhiman,’ one of the largest grassroots constitutional literacy drives ever undertaken in India. Over the last year, the initiative has reached more than one crore people through more than 13,700 programmes held across the country. The original campaign was launched on 24 January 2024 at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. It is part of the Government’s DISHA Scheme, which focuses on innovative ways to improve access to justice for all. Besides spreading awareness about the Constitution, the campaign helped citizens understand their rights in simple language, encouraged them to take the Panch Pran pledge, and connected them to services like Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu which offer legal help, often instantly. As the first year drew to a close, the Government formally launched the next stage — ‘Hamara Samvidhan – Hamara Swabhiman’ — on 24 January 2025. The aim of this expanded phase is to strengthen constitutional pride, deepen public participation, and continue taking legal awareness to every corner of the country. The outreach covered over 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats, Aspirational Districts, and remote regions that often remain outside the reach of major national programmes. While lakhs attended the events physically, many more joined digitally through MyGov contests, pledges, and awareness activities. Officials said the campaign succeeded because it blended legal literacy with cultural programmes and community-level engagement, making constitutional concepts easier for people to relate to and understand. Under the sub-campaign Sabko Nyay – Har Ghar Nyaya, the Government focused on improving access to justice. Citizens showed strong participation in the Panch Pran pledge campaign on MyGov, supported by a QR-code system and extensive mobilisation by Village Level Entrepreneurs. The Nyaya Seva Mela, held in 25 States and Union Territories, promoted Tele-Law services and released new editions of Voice of Beneficiaries, reaching more than 84 lakh people. The Nyaya Sahayak initiative helped train community-level legal volunteers who went door-to-door to spread awareness, eventually registering over 14,500 cases. Vidhi Baithak sessions were organised in villages and blocks, bringing together Anganwadi workers, school committees, self-help groups and Panchayati Raj institutions. Youth engagement was another priority. Through the Nav Bharat Nav Sankalp initiative, activities were designed to help young people understand fundamental duties, constitutional values and the Panch Pran vision using interactive content on MyGov. The Vidhi Jagriti Abhiyaan focused on rural and marginalised communities, teaching them about their rights and various welfare schemes. Student-led Gram Vidhi Chetna teams reached thousands of villagers, while the Vanchit Varg Samman Abhiyaan conducted workshops — in partnership with IGNOU and Doordarshan — to highlight the rights of children, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and transgender persons. Nari Bhagidari workshops addressed gender issues and strengthened legal literacy among women. To ensure broad outreach, four major regional events were held. The first, in Bikaner on 9 March 2024, launched the Nyaya Sahayak initiative and new Tele-Law publications. The second event in Prayagraj on 16 July 2024 introduced a dedicated “Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman” digital portal. In Guwahati, on 19 November 2024, the Government released podcasts, a comic book based on real-life beneficiaries, and a magazine containing 75 stories on how the Constitution has shaped lives. The final event took place on 24 January 2025 at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where an Achievement Booklet was launched in the presence of judges, scholars and CSC workers. According to the Ministry, this campaign has grown into a powerful civic movement, inspiring people across India to understand, respect, and take pride in the Constitution. As the Swabhiman phase continues, the goal is to strengthen constitutional awareness even further as the nation works toward the vision of Viksit Bharat ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman’ Becomes One of India’s Biggest Drives for Constitutional Literacy The nationwide campaign to spread constitutional awareness has entered a stronger phase with the launch of ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman’. After a year of outreach that reached more than one crore people across thousands of events, the campaign continues to grow as one of India’s most meaningful attempts to take the Constitution directly to citizens. From Panchayats and remote districts to schools, youth groups and digital platforms, people across the country have joined pledges, workshops, discussions and activities aimed at making constitutional values easier to understand. The movement has also offered real-time legal help through programmes like Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu, supported community-level legal volunteers, and encouraged people to learn about their rights and duties in simple, practical ways. With new digital tools, cultural initiatives and local-level participation, the campaign has become a strong example of how constitutional literacy can be built from the ground up. As the Swabhiman phase continues, the goal is clear — to inspire every citizen to understand the Constitution more deeply and carry its values with pride. The campaign stands as a reminder that an informed and aware society is essential for building a stronger India.
