Delhi Government Launches AI Grind Initiative to Train 500,000 Students in Artificial Intelligence

December 8, 2025, New Delhi The Delhi government has officially launched Delhi AI Grind, a city-focused Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation program aimed at equipping young learners with the skills needed for an AI-driven future. The initiative, announced by the education department on Sunday, seeks to reach over 500,000 students across more than 1,000 educational institutions, including schools, colleges, industrial training institutes (ITI), and universities. The launch event was held at Central Park, Connaught Place, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Education Minister Ashish Sood, and Air Force officer and astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla in attendance. CM Gupta emphasized the importance of using technology to empower every student, classroom, and community in the national capital. “Delhi, being the heart of the nation, must lead by example in showing how technology can transform learning and problem-solving,” she said. The program will turn traditional classrooms into innovation-oriented labs, where students can create AI-based projects addressing real-life problems faced by the city. Participants, aged 10 to 25 years, will focus on ten critical sectors: transport, health, food systems, tourism, governance, energy, digital education, climate and environment, water and waste management, and public services. The initiative encourages hands-on learning through design thinking, prototyping, sector-based challenges, and real-life applications. Education Minister Ashish Sood highlighted that the program aligns with India AI Decade, the country’s broader strategy to develop a strong AI ecosystem. The initiative aims to train students in structured innovation, problem-solving, and responsible technology use, while also fostering civic participation and leadership. Over the next four months, 5,000 teachers will be trained as certified AI mentors, 1,000 student-led prototypes will be developed, 50 AI Youth Ambassadors will be selected, and a National Innovation Compendium will document ideas created by Delhi’s youth. The initiative is structured around a “10-station innovation model”, which includes awareness campaigns, onboarding, district-level rounds, city showcases, pilot deployment, and youth leadership engagement. This model is designed to ensure that student ideas are not only conceptualized but also have a pathway toward real-world implementation. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla praised the program’s potential, saying, “I saw children coming up with unique solutions for societal challenges using AI. It is truly exciting to witness their creativity and problem-solving abilities.” He added that emphasizing technology in education is essential for accelerating national progress and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. By blending practical AI training with civic and leadership engagement, Delhi AI Grind aims to transform the city’s educational landscape. Students will gain valuable skills in innovation, prototyping, and real-world problem-solving while also learning to apply technology responsibly. Officials said the program will continue as an annual movement, creating a sustained platform for nurturing the next generation of AI innovators in India.
