New Delhi, December 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the closing ceremony of the second World Health Organization (WHO) Global Summit on Traditional Medicine today at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. The three-day international summit, held from December 17 to 19, highlights India’s growing role in promoting traditional medicine through scientific research, standardisation, and global cooperation. Organised jointly by the WHO and the Ministry of Ayush, the summit has brought together global leaders, policymakers, scientists, medical practitioners, Indigenous knowledge holders, and representatives of civil society. The theme of the event, “Restoring balance: The science and practice of health and well-being,” focuses on building health systems that are evidence-based, inclusive, and sustainable. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Prime Minister Modi has consistently stressed the need to integrate traditional medicine and the Indian Knowledge System into mainstream healthcare. During the closing ceremony, the Prime Minister will launch several important initiatives related to the Ayush sector. One of the key launches will be the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), a comprehensive digital platform designed to bring together services, information, and resources related to Ayush systems under one roof. The portal aims to improve access, transparency, and efficiency for both practitioners and the public. PM Modi will also unveil the Ayush Mark, which is envisioned as a global quality benchmark for Ayush products and services. The mark is expected to help build international trust by ensuring quality, safety, and authenticity, thereby supporting the global acceptance of India’s traditional medicine systems. In addition, the Prime Minister is expected to release a WHO technical report focused on training in Yoga, underlining the importance of standardised education and global best practices in Yoga instruction. He will also launch a book titled “From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush”, which documents the progress and expansion of the Ayush sector over the past decade. Highlighting India’s traditional medicinal heritage, PM Modi will release a commemorative postal stamp on Ashwagandha, a well-known medicinal plant widely used in Ayurveda. The stamp symbolises the global recognition and growing interest in India’s traditional healing knowledge. The Prime Minister will also felicitate the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for the years 2021 to 2025. These awards recognise individuals and organisations for their long-term dedication to spreading Yoga and promoting its benefits worldwide. The awards reinforce Yoga’s role as a timeless practice that supports physical health, mental balance, and overall well-being, contributing to a healthier and stronger India. As part of his visit, PM Modi will tour the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space, an exhibition showcasing the richness, diversity, and modern relevance of traditional medicine systems from India and other parts of the world. Throughout the summit, participants engaged in detailed discussions on how traditional medicine can support equitable healthcare, respect Indigenous knowledge, and complement modern medical systems.
