New Delhi | December 30, 2025 In a major step to strengthen security for India’s first semi-high-speed regional rail system, nearly 250 personnel from the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Security Force (UP SSF) will be deployed along the Namo Bharat Corridor. The personnel are being trained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to handle modern security systems before taking up their duties, officials familiar with the development said. The deployment is being planned for the Namo Bharat Corridor, which is being developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to connect key cities across the National Capital Region with faster and more frequent rail services. The move is aimed at ensuring passenger safety as operations expand and more commuters begin using the service. Officials said the CISF has already started training the first batch of UP SSF personnel at its DMRC Unit’s Training Cell, known as Kavach, located in Delhi. The initial batch consists of 40 personnel, including one officer of the Commandant rank. This training marks the beginning of a phased programme under which a total of around 240 to 250 UP SSF personnel will be trained. A CISF spokesperson confirmed that the training programme has commenced and is focused on equipping the personnel with skills required for baggage scanning and handling advanced security gadgets. The training is being conducted at the same facility where CISF regularly trains its own staff deployed at sensitive locations such as airports, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation network, and other critical installations. According to officials, the NCRTC requested the CISF to conduct the training due to its extensive experience in managing security at high-footfall public transport systems. The idea is to ensure that the UP SSF personnel deployed on the Namo Bharat Corridor are prepared to meet the specific security challenges associated with a modern, high-speed commuter rail service. The Namo Bharat project includes three major corridors: Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut, Delhi–Gurugram–Alwar, and Delhi–Panipat–Karnal. These routes are expected to significantly reduce travel time between major cities in the NCR and ease pressure on existing road and rail networks. The system is designed to offer faster, reliable, and comfortable travel for daily commuters. In September this year, the NCRTC successfully completed a trial run of the Namo Bharat train from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. The train covered the 82-kilometre distance in less than an hour, highlighting the speed and efficiency of the new system. Currently, a 55-kilometre stretch of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut corridor is operational and open to passengers. The remaining sections of this corridor are also nearing completion. A 23-kilometre stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram, along with a 4.5-kilometre stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, is undergoing trial runs ahead of full commissioning. Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to transform regional travel in the NCR. Officials said the training at the Kavach facility includes a six-day specialised course on X-ray baggage inspection systems and the use of various security devices. The centre is known for conducting screener certification programmes and refresher courses for personnel deployed at sensitive and high-security locations. In the past, it has also trained security staff from other states and central forces, including personnel linked to metro rail projects. The UP SSF personnel will be deployed once their training is completed in phases. Authorities believe this will help maintain a strong security presence across stations and trains, ensuring passenger confidence as the Namo Bharat network expands.
