Ayushman Arogya Mandirs Form the Foundation of India’s Healthcare System: J.P. Nadda
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has said that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have emerged as the backbone of India’s primary healthcare network, with over 1.81 lakh centres catering to the health needs of nearly 1.4 billion people across the country. He noted that over the last six to seven years, the government has prioritised strengthening primary healthcare by upgrading Health and Wellness Centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, making them the first and most accessible point of contact for citizens seeking medical care. According to Nadda, trained ASHA workers and Community Health Officers play a key role in delivering services at these centres, which include screenings for diabetes, hypertension and cancers, maternal and child healthcare, telemedicine facilities and wellness initiatives such as yoga. He added that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are a crucial component of the Ayushman Bharat programme, working alongside PM-JAY to ensure both preventive care and financial protection, while bringing quality healthcare closer to communities nationwide.
