Ravneet Singh Bittu Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Traitor’ Remark, Recalls Pain of Punjab
Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu strongly reacted after being called a “traitor” by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying such words reflect a sense of entitlement within the Gandhi family. Bittu said some leaders believe they alone define patriotism and sacrifice, while ignoring the deep wounds their party has left behind, especially in Punjab. Speaking emotionally, Bittu recalled the dark period when Punjab faced violence and loss. He said the Congress party and the Gandhi family were responsible for setting Punjab on fire, reminding that bullets were fired at the Golden Temple and thousands of Sikhs and Punjabis were killed. He said, “If Rajiv Gandhi is called a ‘martyr’, then we should also call Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Beant Singh a martyr. I come from that very family, this pain is personal.” Bittu also said that he was respected as long as he was with the Congress, but things changed the moment he joined the BJP. He accused Rahul Gandhi of behaving arrogantly and questioned his attitude. He said, “An martyr’s grandson was acceptable until I was with them. Now that I am in the BJP, he uses such words for me. Who does he think he is?” Referring to a personal interaction, Bittu said he refused to shake hands with Rahul Gandhi, stating, “I am not from the Gandhi family, but I wear a turban. When he tried to shake hands with me, I said, ‘you people are traitors, enemies of the nation’.” He further alleged that the Gandhi family speaks against the army and the country regularly and added, “The Gandhi family is responsible for the killing of Sikhs. I will not shake hands with the son of that family.”
