Assam | 21 Feb 2026 Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the government’s campaign against Maoist insurgency is in its final phase and will reach a decisive conclusion by the end of March this year. Addressing the 87th Raising Day Parade of the Central Reserve Police Force in Guwahati, Shah praised the CRPF for its sustained efforts in tackling one of the country’s biggest internal security challenges. “I can’t even imagine how this big and historic task with huge challenges is nearing its end in just three years. Based on the impressive work by CRPF, I want to reiterate to the nation that Maoist insurgency will be completely rooted out by March 31,” he said. Highlighting key operations, Shah referred to Operation Black Forest conducted by the CRPF in Chhattisgarh last year, which led to the killing of 27 top Maoist leaders, including CPI-Maoist general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao, also known as Basavaraju. He said the operation also resulted in several arrests and surrenders across Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Maharashtra. “When the country will finally get rid of Maoist insurgency, I will state without any hesitation that a big role in it was played by CRPF and its CoBRA Commando (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) battalions,” Shah added. The home minister also acknowledged the CRPF’s contribution to internal security over the past 86 years, noting that the force has paid a heavy price in safeguarding the nation. He said that earlier, Jammu & Kashmir, the northeast and Left-wing extremism were major security hotspots, but sustained efforts by security forces have brought significant peace to these regions. According to Shah, thousands of CRPF personnel have laid down their lives in the line of duty across different parts of the country, including Maoist-affected areas, the northeast and Jammu & Kashmir. Shah further said that the CRPF, along with other forces, played a crucial role in maintaining law and order in Jammu & Kashmir after the removal of Article 370 and in controlling ethnic violence in Manipur. The home minister is on a two-day visit to Assam and Tripura and is scheduled to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony of the headquarters of the 10th battalion of Assam Police later in the day, before returning to Delhi. ‘Maoist Insurgency Will Be Completely Ended by March 31,’ Amit Shah Assures the Nation Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the government’s campaign against Maoist insurgency is in its final phase and will reach a decisive conclusion by the end of March this year.
