Four-Day Traffic Snarl On Delhi-Kolkata Highway After Heavy Rains In Bihar
Patna | October 8, 2025 A massive traffic jam on National Highway 19, connecting Delhi and Kolkata, has left thousands of vehicles stranded for four days in Bihar’s Rohtas district. The chaos began last Friday after torrential rains flooded the diversions and service lanes built by a six-lane construction company at multiple points along the highway. The downpour has severely damaged the road, with potholes appearing everywhere and waterlogging turning the surface slippery. As a result, vehicles have been crawling for days, causing frustration among truck drivers, travellers, and commuters. The gridlock now extends nearly 65 kilometres, reaching Aurangabad from Rohtas. Despite the worsening situation, there has been little visible effort from authorities to manage or clear the congestion. Neither the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) nor the construction company has stepped in to provide relief. Many stranded motorists have complained that even after paying tolls and road taxes, they are left without support or basic facilities. Truck drivers carrying perishable goods are especially worried about financial losses. “In the past 30 hours, we’ve managed to move only seven kilometres. There’s no one from the administration or NHAI here,” said Praveen Singh, a truck driver stuck in the jam. Another driver, Sanjay Singh, shared that people have been stuck for days without food or water, calling the conditions “miserable.” Businesses have been hit hard as trucks carrying vegetables, fruits, and dairy items are stranded, raising fears of spoilage and losses. Ambulances, emergency vehicles, and local commuters have also been caught in the logjam, adding to the chaos. Residents along the route said that despite repeated calls for help, there has been no clear plan from the local administration to ease the congestion. Some have resorted to walking long distances on foot to bypass the jam. When approached for comment, NHAI Project Director Ranjit Verma declined to speak on camera about the situation. The standstill continues, with vehicles covering barely five kilometres in 24 hours, leaving thousands stranded and uncertain about when relief will come. Four Days Stuck On The Road A massive traffic jam on the Delhi-Kolkata Highway in Bihar’s Rohtas district has left hundreds of vehicles stranded for four days after heavy rains flooded the diversions and damaged the road. Drivers are struggling without food or water, and vehicles are barely moving a few kilometres in 24 hours. The gridlock now stretches nearly 65 kilometres up to Aurangabad, with no visible action from authorities or NHAI. Truckers carrying perishable goods fear huge losses, while ambulances and commuters remain trapped. The endless line of vehicles paints a grim picture of neglect and administrative silence.
