UP Woman’s Body Found Eaten by Insects in Mortuary, Prompting Action Against Hospital Staff
Jhansi | December 1, 2025 A disturbing incident at a government medical college in Jhansi has raised serious questions about mortuary management and staff negligence. The family of a 26-year-old woman, Kranti Devi, alleged that her body was found partially eaten by insects inside the mortuary, leading to immediate action against three employees and an ongoing investigation. Kranti Devi, a resident of Sarvo village in the Gurusarai area, had reportedly consumed poison on November 28 after an argument with her husband. She was taken to the medical college for treatment but died during care. Her body was then placed in the hospital’s mortuary. According to the family, Kranti’s brother, Saksham Patel, had paid the facility to keep the body in the mortuary freezer. When he returned the next day to collect the body, he was shocked to find that insects had gnawed at her eye and ear. He immediately alerted hospital authorities. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Sachin Mahour visited the mortuary to examine the situation and confirmed the presence of bite marks around the woman’s eyes and ears. He assured the family that a full investigation would be carried out and that such negligence would not be tolerated. Following the initial inquiry, one mortuary worker was terminated, another suspended, and a third issued a show-cause notice. Officials said directions have been given to ensure better hygiene, maintenance and sensitivity in handling bodies stored in the mortuary. The probe is still underway. Meanwhile, in another case from Uttar Pradesh, a 25-year-old woman named Sapna was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her home in Amethi. Police sent her body for post-mortem, and the cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report. Authorities say both incidents highlight the need for better oversight in medical facilities and increased accountability among staff responsible for patient and post-mortem care.
