New Delhi | 8 March 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro in the national capital, along with laying the foundation stones for several major development projects on Sunday. The initiatives are part of infrastructure works worth around ₹33,500 crore. During the event, the prime minister is also expected to address a public gathering. Ahead of the launch, Rekha Gupta highlighted that expanding the metro network is an important step toward improving public transport in Delhi and said the state government has prioritised public transport in the 2025–26 budget. The prime minister will inaugurate the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Delhi Metro Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line. With this expansion, the Pink Line will stretch to 71.56 kilometres, completing the country’s first fully functional “ring metro” that connects large parts of the city. The newly opened stretch will include stations such as Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar before reaching Maujpur-Babarpur. Officials say this corridor will improve connectivity between north-east and north-west Delhi and make daily travel faster for commuters. The Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section will extend the Magenta Line to nearly 49 kilometres. This corridor is part of the extension of the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension route. The elevated stretch will feature seven stations, including Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor and Bhalswa. Another highlight of the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur project is a new bridge built over the Yamuna River along with a double-decker viaduct that carries both a metro track and a road flyover. Apart from the inaugurations, the prime minister will also lay the foundation stones for three new metro corridors under Phase 5(A). These include the underground Central Vista corridor connecting Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and Indraprastha, the underground extension of the Delhi Metro Golden Line between Aerocity and Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and an elevated extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. These projects aim to improve connectivity between Delhi and nearby NCR cities such as Noida, Faridabad and Ballabhgarh. In addition, development works worth around ₹15,200 crore will be launched under the redevelopment of General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies. A day before International Women’s Day, Rekha Gupta also travelled on a Delhi Transport Corporation bus using the Saheli Pink National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), which allows women to travel free on DTC buses.
