Gandhinagar, July 13, 2026 A remarkable display of public participation and environmental responsibility has placed Gujarat's Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency in the global spotlight. Under the nationwide 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, the constituency achieved a Guinness World Record by planting more than 3.61 lakh saplings in a single hour using the Miyawaki afforestation method, highlighting the growing momentum behind community-led efforts for sustainable development. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday congratulated the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), more than 25,000 volunteers and the people of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency for the achievement. Congratulating all those involved, HM Shah said the achievement reflected exemplary public participation, meticulous planning and a collective commitment towards environmental conservation. He said the campaign, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has transformed environmental protection into a people’s movement by encouraging citizens across the country to actively participate in tree plantation drives. HM Shah said the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency has further strengthened the campaign by achieving a historic milestone in the field of environmental conservation. The plantation campaign recorded more than 1.26 crore saplings across the constituency. Of these, over 1.15 crore saplings were planted at 404 public locations, while more than 11 lakh saplings were planted by residents on private premises. Sanand Assembly constituency led the drive with 53.64 lakh saplings across 186 locations, followed by Gandhinagar North with 18.09 lakh saplings at 97 sites, Kalol city with 16.64 lakh saplings at 77 locations, Vejalpur town with 17.54 lakh saplings at 10 locations, Ghatlodia with 8.32 lakh saplings at 18 sites and Sabarmati district with 82,314 saplings at six locations. HM Shah described the campaign as a model of environmental conservation driven by public participation and said it reflected PM Modi’s vision of achieving sustainable development through "Progress with Nature." He also highlighted initiatives such as oxygen parks, large-scale afforestation, pond restoration and public awareness campaigns undertaken across the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Stressing that tree plantation does not end with planting saplings, he urged citizens to take responsibility for their care and maintenance, expressing confidence that such people-led initiatives would play a significant role in building a developed India while ensuring a cleaner, greener and ecologically balanced future for generations to come.
