Yogi Adityanath Orders Statewide Audit of UP Colleges and Universities

New Delhi | Sept 08, 2025 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed a sweeping inspection of all colleges and universities in the state, focusing on admissions, recognition, and courses offered. The move comes as part of a government crackdown on institutions running unapproved or unrecognised programmes. According to officials, a special investigation team (SIT) will be set up in every district to carry out the inspections. These teams will include senior administrative officers, education department representatives, and members of the police force, ensuring that the drive is executed with authority, impartiality, and transparency. Focus on Admissions and Courses As part of the exercise, each educational institution will be required to submit affidavits confirming that they are offering only government-recognised programmes. These claims will then be cross-verified against official approval letters to detect discrepancies. Authorities have clarified that if any institution is found conducting unrecognised courses, strict punitive action will follow immediately. In such cases, the management will also be held responsible for compensating students. Affected students will be entitled to a full refund of their fees, including interest, safeguarding their academic and financial interests. Strict Enforcement of Rules The state administration has stressed that conducting unapproved courses not only endangers students’ futures but also constitutes a breach of trust. Institutions found guilty will face firm disciplinary measures. Divisional commissioners have been tasked with overseeing the inspection process directly, ensuring accountability and preventing any procedural lapses. Each district has been instructed to submit a comprehensive inspection report within 15 days, offering the government an accurate and up-to-date assessment of the state’s higher education landscape. Ensuring Accountability in Education Officials have stated that this large-scale probe is intended to restore public confidence in Uttar Pradesh’s education system. By weeding out irregularities and enforcing compliance, the government aims to protect students from being exploited by institutions running unauthorised programmes. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive signals a renewed push towards transparency, accountability, and stricter governance in higher education. This inspection drive is expected to not only expose violations but also establish stronger checks for the future, ensuring that students across Uttar Pradesh have access to legitimate and credible educational opportunities.
