PM Modi to Inaugurate ₹42,000 Crore Arunachal Frontier Highway and Hydroelectric Projects

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, September 20, 2025 Arunachal Pradesh is preparing to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22, 2025, for the inauguration of the strategically significant Arunachal Frontier Highway and two major hydroelectric projects. The highway project, valued at approximately ₹42,000 crore, spans roughly 1,840 kilometers along the McMahon Line, connecting remote areas from Bomdila in West Kameng to Vijaynagar in Changlang district. Officials describe the highway as crucial for enhancing connectivity, facilitating transportation, and strengthening national security along the sensitive India-China border. The Arunachal Frontier Highway is expected to significantly reduce travel times in previously inaccessible regions, improve logistics for security forces, and open avenues for economic development in remote border districts. The state government and central agencies have coordinated extensively to address the challenging terrain, landslides, and environmental concerns associated with the construction. Alongside the highway, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the 186 MW Tato-I and 240 MW Heo hydroelectric projects, both located on the Yarjep River in Shi-Yomi district.
