New Delhi, 22 October, 2026 The investigation into the murder of Shiva Sharma has progressed with a Nagpur court granting Uttar Pradesh Police three-day transit remand of the three accused arrested in connection with the case. Shraddha Dubey, her sister Rashmi Dubey and their driver Danish were apprehended on Tuesday during a joint operation conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) and Lucknow Police. Following the court's order, the police have departed for Lucknow with the accused for further investigation. The three accused had been on the run, with a reward of ₹50,000 announced for each of them. Their arrests followed extensive raids at multiple locations. A murder case was registered at Hazratganj police station on October 9 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a written complaint submitted by the victim's mother, Ranjana Sharma. Police had initially announced a reward of ₹25,000 for information leading to their arrest before raising it to ₹50,000. Surveillance teams, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police personnel were involved in the search operation. After the arrests, Ranjana Sharma expressed gratitude to the police, the STF, the administration and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She described the development, which took place on Vijayadashami, as the "first step toward justice" for her son and said she had faith in the legal process. "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone— the police, the STF, the administration, CM Yogi Adityanath, and all those who supported us. It is significant that today is the day of Vijayadashami, and this marks the first step toward justice for Shiva. Following this arrest, the case will proceed according to the due process of law. As for the harassment, there are many other videos currently in people's possession. I have full faith that justice will be served," she said. Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said Shraddha Dubey had allegedly adopted several measures to avoid detection. According to him, she regularly wore a burqa, limited her use of communication devices, avoided interactions and stayed in budget hotels where surveillance and police monitoring were minimal. He said the accused would be brought to Lucknow on transit remand, where police would question them and continue the investigation. Yash also said investigators had received information that Shraddha Dubey had travelled to Nepal before returning. "This was likely an attempt to throw the police off her trail," he said. With the three accused now being taken to Lucknow, the investigation is set to move into its next phase, with police questioning expected to help establish further details of the case and advance the proceedings under the law.
