New Delhi | 26 Feb 2026 India delivered a strong and clear response to Pakistan at the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva, firmly rejecting allegations raised on Jammu and Kashmir. India’s First Secretary Anupama Singh said Pakistan appears to be living in “La-La Land” if it cannot see the visible development and democratic progress taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing claims made by Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Singh said Islamabad’s “propaganda reeks of envy” and added that India has no “desire to dignify it”, but would still “make a few points to dismantle it with facts.” She firmly stated that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” and that no amount of rhetoric could change the legal and irreversible accession of the region to India under the Indian Independence Act of 1947 and international law. Singh underlined that the real unresolved issue is Pakistan’s “forcible occupation” of Indian territory and called on Islamabad to vacate these areas. She also highlighted that the strong voter turnout in recent general and assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir shows that people have rejected terrorism and violence and are choosing development and democracy instead. Taking a dig at Pakistan’s denial of progress in the region, Singh said that if major projects like the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge inaugurated last year, are termed fake, then Pakistan must indeed be living in “La-La” land. She further noted that Jammu and Kashmir’s development budget is more than double the bailout package Pakistan recently sought from the International Monetary Fund. Responding to criticism on democracy, she added that it was “hard to take lectures on democracy from a country where civilian governments rarely complete their terms.” India Hits Back at Pakistan at UNHRC, Calls J&K an Integral Part and Asks Islamabad to Vacate Occupied Areas India delivered a strong and clear response to Pakistan at the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva, firmly rejecting allegations raised on Jammu and Kashmir.
