Apology Video Surfaces After PM Modi’s Forgiveness Appeal

New Delhi, August 1, 2026 A video circulating on social media has brought fresh attention to the controversy surrounding a girl accused of using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a student protest. In the recording, she is seen with folded hands, expressing regret and saying she was influenced by people at the protest. Although the FIR mentioned her age as 25, she claims in the video that she is 15 years old. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified. "I am only 15 years old. Whatever I did was not worthy of forgiveness. I have said a lot of bad things." Calling the incident her "first and last mistake", she says, "I apologise to the entire country. I am so ashamed. I can't even look at myself. Please forgive me." The controversy followed a complaint filed at a Noida police station. Police registered a Zero FIR, which was subsequently transferred to Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi. The complaint alleged that the remarks disrespected the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office and had the potential to disturb public peace. The apology video emerged soon after PM Modi spoke about the incident and called for forgiveness instead of retaliation. Referring to the slogans raised at Jantar Mantar, he said, "abuses never solve anything" and urged people to help young individuals who may have gone in the wrong direction. He also said, "I want to forgive them. I request society also to accept what I am saying," while appealing for collective efforts to guide them. The development has added another dimension to the controversy, with attention now focused on the apology video, the girl’s claimed age and the police case. Until the recording is independently authenticated, questions surrounding the circumstances of the video remain unresolved.
