Raghav Chadha Breaks Silence on NEET Paper Leak, Backs Institutional Reform

New Delhi, July 31, 2026 Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha explained his decision to remain silent on the NEET paper leak issue during the debate on the anti-paper leak bill, arguing that such cases require an institutional solution rather than “media soundbites”. He said his responsibilities changed after moving from the Opposition to the treasury benches. “Earlier, when I was in the Opposition, it was my job to raise questions, and I did it honestly. Now I am on the treasury benches, so my role has changed. My responsibility is no longer to ask questions but to provide solutions,” he said. Chadha said he had chosen to speak only when he believed concrete action was being taken to address the problem. “I had made a promise to myself that I would speak about the matter in Parliament only when we could bring a solution and when the system is being fixed. And today is that historic day when the system is being fixed,” he said. Addressing protesting students, he acknowledged the sacrifices made by NEET aspirants and their families while preparing for the examination. “Your anger is justified. Your emotions are justified. Your pain is justified,” he said. The MP said the NDA-led government responded to students’ concerns, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi listening to them “like a guardian”. Chadha said a comprehensive framework had been introduced to tackle paper leaks and claimed that the NEET investigation was expedited, with a charge sheet filed in a fast-track court within 75 days. He also announced that future NEET examinations would be conducted through a computer-based system instead of OMR sheets. Chadha stressed that paper leaks should not be viewed through a political lens and called for accountability and ethics irrespective of the state, minister or party involved. He referred to alleged irregularities in the Punjab Pharmacy Officer recruitment examination and the SSLC paper leak in Karnataka, urging bipartisan support for the legislation. The anti-paper leak bill was passed by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha through voice votes amid Opposition protests and walkouts, with the focus now shifting towards restoring trust in the examination system and protecting students.
