A US-based gastroenterologist has explained that eating dinner at a fixed time every day helps the body function better by aligning it with its natural internal clock. While 6 pm is considered an ideal time, the focus should be on maintaining a regular routine rather than following a strict hour. Explaining the science behind this, Dr Palaniappan Manickam said the human body works on a 24-hour internal system known as the circadian rhythm. This clock controls hunger, energy levels, motivation, and hormone activity. Located in a small part of the brain, this “master clock” guides when hormones should become active or rest. According to the doctor, digestive hormones are most active during the day and slow down after sunset, while repair and growth hormones work mainly at night during sleep.
