New Delhi, September 07, 2026 Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan could be heading for another on-screen reunion with Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited film King. The two actors were last seen together nearly two decades ago, and their possible return has added another interesting element to the highly anticipated project. While details about the film’s characters are being closely guarded, reports suggest that Mukerji’s role may be more significant than initially believed. Mukerji was earlier reportedly expected to appear in an extended cameo as the mother of Suhana Khan’s character. However, a report by Mid-Day has now suggested that her part could take a different direction, with the actor potentially being paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek is reportedly playing the antagonist in the film, although the exact nature of his character and his connection with Mukerji’s role have not been disclosed. King will also bring Rani Mukerji back on screen with Shah Rukh Khan after their last collaboration in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). The film has already generated significant interest with its ensemble cast, which includes Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, among others. Mukerji and Bachchan have previously worked together in several films, including Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai (2001), Yuva (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006) and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007). If they are indeed paired in King, the film would mark their first collaboration since Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and give audiences an opportunity to see the actors together again after a long gap. At present, Mukerji’s character and her reported relationship with Abhishek’s role remain unconfirmed. With the makers maintaining secrecy around the film’s storyline, the reported reunion has only increased curiosity about how the two characters will fit into King’s larger narrative.
