Radhika Apte Questions ‘Needless’ Intimate Scenes in Films
New Delhi, September 19, 2026 Actress Radhika Apte has spoken about how her earlier film roles shaped perceptions about her willingness to perform intimate scenes. She said that after appearing in several projects involving such scenes, some people in the industry began assuming she would readily agree to similar requests, even when they had little connection to the story. Apte recalled being asked to kiss co-stars without being given a clear reason for including those moments. She also remembered being asked to perform an action sequence while wearing only innerwear. According to the actor, she now wants filmmakers to explain the purpose of any intimate scene and how it contributes to the narrative before she agrees to it. Speaking to Zoom, Radhika Apte said, “In the beginning I have done some four five films where I'm nude. Like entirely nude. So then, one of these people were sitting, they said, ‘Ye to kar legi. (She will do it).' So I had to tell them that, ‘Listen, I will actually not do it because I've done it.' Now I know even more. I want them to explain to me, ‘Why do you want it? Like why do you want me to kiss him right now?' They said, ‘Thoda thoda.' This is the answer of a lot of people. ‘Thoda kissing, thoda, 15 seconds of the improvise.' I said, ‘Sorry, what?' It's really funny actually when they say.” Apte said her approach has evolved with experience. Rather than allowing assumptions based on her previous work to determine what she is expected to do, she now seeks a clear explanation of why a particular intimate moment is required. For the actor, understanding its place in the story has become an important part of the conversation with filmmakers.
