Meerut | Dec 02, 2025A disturbing case from Meerut has led to the arrest of a suspended sub-inspector after a woman accused him of harassment, assault and setting her vehicles on fire. Police confirmed on Monday that two men, including the officer, have been taken into custody and a formal investigation is now underway. The incident took place on the night of November 29 in Kanshiram Colony, under the Kotwali police station area. The complainant, Ayesha, who runs a beauty parlour, told the police that Sub-Inspector Sneh Prakash Azad, who had been suspended earlier, had been pressuring her to enter a physical relationship. When she refused, she alleged that the officer arrived at her house along with two associates and set her scooter and her son’s motorcycle on fire. According to Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh, the suspended officer was detained soon after the complaint was registered. Another man believed to be involved in the incident has also been arrested. Circle Officer Antariksh Jain confirmed that the case was filed promptly, and serious charges including assault, abuse and destruction of property have been added. Police Inspector Yogesh Chandra said the woman and the officer had known each other for a long time, but a dispute occurred on the night of the attack, leading to the violent outburst. Police say further questioning is in progress, and they are verifying the sequence of events and the involvement of all accused in the arson and alleged harassment. In a separate incident reported in nearby Ghaziabad, police said a 28-year-old man allegedly shot his former partner after discovering that her family had arranged her marriage to another man. The shooting took place in Nanglaber village in Bhojpur area on Saturday evening. According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Modinagar) Amit Saxena, the accused, Pradeep Kumar, reached the 22-year-old woman’s house and fired at her with a country-made pistol. She collapsed on the spot, and her family along with neighbours rushed her to a local hospital. Doctors later referred her to Meerut for specialised treatment. Medical teams reported that the bullet had lodged just under the skin near her ear, and a neurosurgeon was expected to perform surgery to remove it.
