The incident took place on Thursday night and led to swift police action following a complaint shared on social media. According to the police, the SG Palya police station registered a first information report (FIR) after a witness posted a video of the incident on X (formerly Twitter) and tagged the Bengaluru City Police and Traffic Police. The post described how a group of men were seen harassing a woman on a main road before 10 pm. The witness said he recorded the video as evidence and intervened, after which the men fled the scene. Police officials confirmed that all three accused were identified, arrested, and remanded to judicial custody. They have been named as Roshan, aged 19, Ayan, aged 19, and Rihan Khan, aged 18. The motorcycle allegedly used during the harassment was also traced as part of the investigation. In an official response on X, the SG Palya police said appropriate legal action had been taken. “An FIR has been registered, the accused persons have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody,” the police stated, adding that the complaint was being taken seriously and investigated promptly. Earlier, police from the Jnanabharathi police station arrested a man accused of harassing a young woman and attempting to force her into a romantic relationship. In that case, the accused allegedly followed the woman repeatedly, used abusive language, physically assaulted her, and tried to tear her clothes. According to police reports, that incident escalated on December 22 when the accused went to the paying guest accommodation where the woman lived. He allegedly hit her on the head, back, and neck and tried to forcibly grab her before fleeing the scene. A case was registered the same day under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including provisions related to crimes against women and criminal intimidation. The Jnanabharathi police acted within 24 hours and arrested the accused. Senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the South-West Division, the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Kengeri Sub-Division, and other police personnel, were involved in the operation. Police officials have reiterated that harassment and crimes against women will not be tolerated and that strict action will be taken against offenders.
