New Delhi | 9 Feb 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while interacting with students during the ninth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha, called on young Indians to adopt discipline and simple civic habits to help the country become a developed nation by 2047. In a break from tradition, the second phase of the programme saw the Prime Minister connect with students across four cities — Coimbatore, Raipur, Dev Mogra and Guwahati. He said national progress does not depend only on big policies, but also on everyday behaviour followed by citizens. Speaking in Coimbatore, the Prime Minister explained how small habits make a big difference. Referring to countries like Singapore, he said development begins with discipline in daily life. “If you throw garbage around as is being done in Third World countries or spit anywhere you want, this will not be possible,” he said, stressing the importance of following traffic rules, avoiding food waste and maintaining cleanliness. He added that even a small decision like not wasting food at home contributes to Viksit Bharat. Highlighting the Vocal for Local campaign, he said, “If you take a stand that you will buy only products made in India, that will help the country.” PM Modi also spoke about the strong influence of teachers and parents in shaping his life. He said teachers encouraged reading, discussions and physical fitness, which left a lasting impact on him. “My mother has a big role to play in my life. My teacher has also played a big role,” he said. The Prime Minister advised students not to become slaves to mobile phones and television, but to use technology wisely. He encouraged them to help classmates who struggle with studies, saying it improves one’s own understanding as well. Addressing questions on stress, exams and personal growth, PM Modi urged students to remain calm and confident. “Whatever you have studied does not go waste. It would have got stored somewhere in your brain. Be calm. Keep on trying,” he said. He highlighted the importance of sleep, laughter and physical health, advising daily breathing exercises. Speaking on leadership, he said it is about taking initiative, not giving speeches. He concluded by motivating students to compete with themselves, learn from failures and move forward with confidence, reminding them that even great achievers face setbacks before success. ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’: PM Modi Urges Students to Build Discipline and Civic Sense for a Developed India Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with students during the ninth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha and urged them to follow discipline and civic sense to help India become a developed nation by 2047.
