Itanagar | 7 Feb 2026 Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik on Saturday underlined the urgent need to strengthen border road infrastructure in the state, saying such roads are critical for national security as well as the daily lives of people living in frontier areas. He stressed that strategic roads act as lifelines and must be constructed with high quality and completed within set timelines. The governor made these remarks during a meeting with Director General of Border Roads Lt Gen Harpal Singh at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar. He pointed out that delays or poor-quality work directly affect connectivity, emergency services and access to basic needs in remote and challenging terrain. Both sides reviewed the progress of ongoing border road projects and discussed their role in boosting development in far-flung regions. During the meeting, the DGBR shared future plans related to the Frontier Highway and other sensitive road alignments, which are being taken up on priority. Parnaik appreciated the work done by the Border Roads Organisation, noting that better roads have transformed border villages by improving access to education, healthcare, markets and livelihood options. The governor also said improved connectivity has strengthened economic activity, social integration and India’s presence in distant border areas. He added that the road network is giving a strong push to the Centre’s vibrant village programme.
