New Delhi, May 16, 2026 India’s fight against international drug trafficking received a major boost after authorities carried out the country’s first-ever seizure of Captagon, a banned synthetic stimulant linked to organised criminal and extremist networks. Conducted under “Operation Ragepill,” the action reflects the government’s growing focus on dismantling cross-border narcotics operations and tightening surveillance on illegal trafficking routes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the success of the operation and said, “Modi govt is resolved for a ‘Drug-Free India’. Glad to share that through ‘Operation RAGEPILL’, our agencies have achieved the first-ever seizure of Captagon, the so-called ‘Jihadi Drug’, worth ₹182 crore.” Officials confirmed that a foreign national has been arrested while investigations into the wider network are continuing. According to authorities, the consignment was intercepted in Delhi and at Mundra Port in Gujarat after being transported under the cover of commercial cargo. Investigators are now examining suspected international connections behind the supply chain, particularly possible links to trafficking syndicates operating across West Asia. Captagon has gained global attention due to its illegal circulation in conflict-hit regions and its association with militant financing. The seizure is being viewed as a significant milestone in India’s anti-narcotics campaign and a warning to transnational smuggling groups attempting to use Indian territory for illegal trade. Officials reiterated that agencies will continue strict monitoring and coordinated action to prevent the spread of narcotics and protect national security interests.
