New Delhi, June 16, 2026 As the world prepares to mark International Day of Yoga, India is positioning the event as a global movement focused on wellness, healthy living, and collective participation. This year’s celebrations aim to highlight yoga’s growing role in supporting healthier lifestyles across age groups and communities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations from Kolkata’s Red Road on June 21. Organised under the Ministry of Ayush, the event is expected to become one of the largest coordinated yoga observances, bringing together participants from India and across the world. With the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” this year’s campaign places emphasis on physical fitness, mental well-being, and long-term health. Indian missions overseas are expected to conduct yoga sessions at thousands of locations globally, extending the reach of the annual observance beyond national borders. Ahead of the main event, several yoga programmes have been planned across iconic locations in India to encourage wider public participation. The celebrations reflect the continued effort to promote yoga as a shared practice that connects health, awareness, and global engagement.
