New Delhi, July 7, 2026 Highlighting the growing depth of India-Indonesia relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’ (Star of the Republic of Indonesia), during his official visit to Jakarta on Tuesday. The recognition reflects the strong diplomatic partnership between the two countries and acknowledges efforts to further bilateral cooperation and mutual trust. In a post on X, PM Modi said, “This morning, I have also been conferred with Indonesia’s highest honour with immense affection. This honour belongs to the crores of Indians… it belongs to the sentiments of the people of Indonesia, to the historic and intimate ties between India and Indonesia. I express my heartfelt gratitude to President Prabowo Ji, the Government of Indonesia, and the people here.” Sharing details of the ceremony, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “A tribute to the India-Indonesia friendship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’ Medal of Honor by President Prabowo Subianto. This is the highest honor of Republic of Indonesia. It has been awarded in recognition of PM’s leadership in strengthening India-Indonesia friendship and furthering unity, continuity and prosperity of Indonesia. PM dedicated the honour to the people of India and the enduring bonds of friendship between India and Indonesia.” Instituted in 1959, the award is presented to individuals who have rendered outstanding service towards Indonesia’s unity, continuity and prosperity. Earlier in the day, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, where he signed the guestbook before holding bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto. According to Randhir Jaiswal, the visit marks an important step in advancing the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, opening new avenues for cooperation while reinforcing the enduring friendship, shared values and deep trust between the two nations.
