Vaibhav Suryavanshi Shines as Player of the Series in Zimbabwe

New Delhi, July 27, 2026 Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi underlined his immense potential with a remarkable performance on India's Zimbabwe tour, earning the Player of the Series award after finishing as the highest run-scorer in the T20 series. The young batter amassed 151 runs in three matches at an average of 50.33, including two half-centuries. His impressive comeback came after a difficult outing in England, highlighting his ability to bounce back under pressure. Suryavanshi played one of his finest knocks in the final match at Harare Sports Club, scoring 81 runs from 49 deliveries on a slow pitch with the help of eight fours and four sixes. The innings earned him the Player of the Match award. Earlier in the series, he had made an immediate impact by smashing 50 runs off just 19 balls in the opening game, setting the tone for a memorable campaign. In a video shared by the BCCI on Monday, Suryavanshi credited interim coach VVS Laxman and batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar for giving him confidence and freedom. He said, “Playing for the senior Indian team, becoming ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ is like a dream come true for me. I am very happy and want to thank everyone who supported me throughout this journey. I am grateful to the senior players and the coaching staff.” He further added, “Before the match, our head coach VVS sir and Hrishikesh sir spoke to me. They discussed a lot about how I was feeling at that time, how I felt before the series started and what my mindset was. They gave me complete freedom and told me to just play and not think about anything.” The young batter also spoke about sharing a strong bond with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, as both hail from Bihar. He said, “I don’t feel like I am alone or that I am in the senior team. It feels like I play all matches everywhere with everyone.
