PM Modi Joins Yoga Session in Tashkent, Celebrates India-Uzbekistan Ties

New Delhi, August 30, 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Uzbekistan has highlighted the strong cultural and people-to-people connections between the two nations. On Sunday, he participated in a yoga session organised by the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan in Tashkent and interacted with participants. His engagements reflected the growing cultural exchange and friendship between India and Uzbekistan. PM Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday and thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome at Tashkent airport. He later visited the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument with President Mirziyoyev and laid a wreath there. “Upon landing in Tashkent, I went to lay a wreath at the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument with President Mirziyoyev. The Yangi Uzbekistan Monument reflects the aspirations and progress of the Uzbek people. Glad to begin my visit by coming here,” he noted on X. During the visit, Modi and Mirziyoyev also examined artworks depicting Uzbek culture and history at Yangi Uzbekistan Park. The Prime Minister was additionally welcomed by a large gathering of the Indian community in Tashkent. “Overwhelmed by the warmth and affection of the Indian community in Tashkent. Our diaspora is a living bridge between India and Uzbekistan, strengthening the bonds of friendship between our nations,” PM Modi said on Saturday on social media platform X. The welcome also featured an Indian-Uzbek musical fusion performance. Appreciating the presentation, PM Modi said, “A captivating fusion of Indian and Uzbek musical traditions! The Tabla blends beautifully with the Doira and Chang, showcasing the deep cultural connect between India and Uzbekistan,” Prime Minister Modi said, sharing a glimpse of a Tabla performance on X. A few women from the Indian community also tied rakhis to PM Modi’s wrist while greeting him. From yoga and music to interactions with the Indian diaspora and cultural landmarks, PM Modi’s visit showcased the broadening ties between India and Uzbekistan. The engagements underlined how cultural connections and community links continue to complement the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
