India to Host First-Ever Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027

New Delhi, September 03 2026 The inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy will be staged in India in February 2027, giving the country another major role in the expanding global calendar of women’s cricket. The tournament was initially planned for Sri Lanka, but the ICC shifted the event to India as Sri Lanka Cricket continues to work on reforms discussed at the ICC’s Annual Conference. The six-team competition will run from February 14 to February 28, with Mumbai and Vadodara chosen as the host cities. The Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will stage the matches. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will compete after qualifying through their positions in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings at the July 6 cut-off date. The teams will play a round-robin league, with the top two progressing to the final on February 28. India was selected after the ICC considered Bangladesh, India and South Africa as potential replacement hosts. The move comes as Sri Lanka Cricket remains engaged in governance and constitutional reforms.
