PM Modi Recalls Vinoba Bhave’s Legacy of Equality and Service

New Delhi, September 11, 2026 Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s contribution to social reform and his vision of a more equal society were remembered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday on the occasion of his Jayanti. Modi’s tribute focused on Bhave’s belief that social welfare, dignity and service should remain at the heart of public life. Highlighting the Gandhian thinker’s universal outlook, the Prime Minister referred to his call of ‘Jai Jagat’, a message that sought to place humanity above divisions. Modi said Bhave’s work extended beyond a single section of society and focused on empowering those who needed support the most. “Tributes to Acharya Vinoba Bhave on his Jayanti. His stirring call of ‘Jai Jagat’ transcended every boundary and placed humanity above all,” the Prime Minister said. Modi further recalled the principles that guided Bhave’s efforts for social welfare. “Through his various efforts, he worked towards the welfare and empowerment of all. His unwavering faith in equality, dignity and service gave strength to the most marginalised,” he added. Bhave, a prominent Gandhian thinker and social reformer, became particularly associated with the Bhoodan Movement, through which he encouraged voluntary land donations for the landless. His work also focused on rural upliftment, while his broader philosophy promoted non-violence, equality and voluntary service. His legacy continues to be associated with the idea that meaningful social change begins with dignity, compassion and a commitment to the welfare of others.
