After piling up 216/3 in 20 overs, India’s bowlers dismantled the Sri Lankan batting order and bowled them out for just 69 in 15.4 overs. India’s innings got off to a flying start as Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma combined for a 99-run opening partnership. Mandhana led the scoring with a superb 79 off 45 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes, while Shafali smashed 48 from 29 balls, including three fours and three sixes. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 19 off 17 balls, before Richa Ghosh took charge in the closing overs. The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on a spectacular 49 off 22 balls, with six fours and three sixes. Bharti Fulmali added an unbeaten 7 as India reached 216/3, their highest total in women’s cricket at the Asian Games. The chase never gathered momentum for Sri Lanka. Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 29 off 21 balls, but India kept striking at regular intervals. Kavisha Dilhari made 11 and Kaushani Nuthyangana scored 14, while the rest of the batting line-up struggled against India’s attack. Deepti Sharma finished with three wickets, while Shafali Verma, Sree Charani and Shreyanka Patil claimed two wickets each. Patil wrapped up the innings by bowling Kaushani Nuthyangana, leaving Sri Lanka all out for 69 in 15.4 overs. India’s 147-run victory secured the gold medal in emphatic fashion, with Sri Lanka taking silver and Pakistan winning bronze. The combination of a 216-run batting display and a ten-wicket bowling effort gave India a comprehensive victory in the gold medal clash.
