Liechtenstein Prince Visits India, Focus on Trade and Investment
New Delhi, October 27, 2026 India and Liechtenstein are looking to strengthen their bilateral partnership, with trade, investment and technological collaboration emerging as key priorities during the visit of Hereditary Prince Alois to New Delhi. The visit marks Liechtenstein’s first state visit to India and comes after the India–European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) came into force in 2025. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Prince Alois and his wife, Hereditary Princess Sophie, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was also present at the ceremonial reception. Speaking to reporters, Prince Alois said, “I am very honoured to be in India on the occasion of Liechtenstein’s first state visit to this remarkable country,” while thanking President Murmu and PM Modi for the invitation and welcome. Highlighting the India–EFTA trade agreement as an important milestone, Prince Alois said, “We are determined to build on this momentum and strengthen our ties with India even further.” He identified innovation, advanced manufacturing, financial services, education and technology as promising areas for cooperation, noting that the two countries’ complementary strengths could create mutual economic benefits. Prince Alois is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House, with discussions expected to cover trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, people-to-people exchanges and regional and global developments. His programme also includes a visit to Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and meetings with Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary. President Murmu is also scheduled to meet the Prince and host a banquet in his honour. India and Liechtenstein established diplomatic relations in 1993, and Prince Alois previously visited India in 2010 and 2018. He also attended the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the current visit is expected to give fresh momentum to bilateral relations and create opportunities for partnerships in emerging sectors. Accompanied by official and business delegations, the Prince is scheduled to conclude his visit on Wednesday.
