Acting on the promises to protect the economically vulnerable, the Uttar Pradesh government has so far distributed free ration to over 3.35 crore of beneficiaries for the month of July. The free food grain distribution which started on July 5 will continue till July 15. Under the scheme, more than 14.83 crore beneficiaries will receive 3 kg of wheat and 2 kg of rice.

While ensuring transparency in the public distribution system, the UP Government has till now distributed more than 184956.311  MT of free ration to over 33591030 units for July

In order to help the migrants, poor and under-priviledged  sections of the society to tide over the hardship of corona times, the government is providing free 5 kg food grains.

The ration is being distributed under the supervision of the nodal officers at around 80,000 ration shops (kotedars) with adherence to all the Covid safety protocols.

The Food and Supply Department informed that a total of around 817294.640 MT of food grains was allocated to distribute among the 14.83 crore beneficiaries of the State. The UP Government has till now distributed more than 184956.311 MT of ration among the ration holders of Antyodaya and Eligible Households Category.

Notably, there are around  1,30,40,955 units of beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Ann Yojna and  13,52,90,497 units under Eligible Household card holders.

In the Urban areas, the state government has distributed free ration to almost 8471941 beneficiaries, while in the rural areas more than 25119089 beneficiaries have received the grains.

While distribution through ePoS devices ensures that subsidised food grains are being provided to the rightful beneficiary through biometric authentication, the integration of ePoS devices with electronic weighing scales is ensuring that the beneficiary is given the right quantity of foodgrains by the fair price shop dealer

The exercise is being closely monitored and carried out while observing the Covid protocols. Online tokens have been arranged by the government for the convenience of the beneficiaries to prevent Covid spread. To maintain social distancing at each ration shop, only five beneficiaries are allowed at a time.

The Chief Minister, on Wednesday, instructed the officials that the arrangements for distribution of ration and food to the needy should be made amid the fight against COVID-19. “No one should be deprived of ration for not having a ration card”. He also said that national ration portability had been implemented in the state. Under the portability scheme, the residents of other states could get their ration in UP while the state’s residents could get their ration in other states.
