New Delhi | October 5, 2025 United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer will make his first official visit to India on October 8 and 9 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday. The visit marks a significant step in strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advancing cooperation across multiple areas of mutual interest. During his visit, Starmer will meet PM Modi in Mumbai on October 9 to review progress under the ‘Vision 2035’ roadmap. This ten-year plan outlines programmes and initiatives in key areas such as trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education, and people-to-people relations. Both leaders will discuss strategies to further deepen ties and ensure that the partnership continues to benefit citizens and businesses in both countries. A central focus of the discussions will be the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which aims to enhance economic and trade relations between the two nations. Starmer and Modi are expected to meet with business leaders and industry representatives to explore opportunities for investment, technological collaboration, and trade expansion. This engagement will also provide a platform for both countries to promote innovation, research, and development in sectors critical to economic growth. In addition to bilateral talks, the Prime Ministers will participate in the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, where they will deliver keynote addresses. At the event, they will engage with policymakers, industry experts, and innovators to discuss developments in financial technology, digital economy, and related areas. This interaction is expected to provide insights into global trends, facilitate partnerships, and support the growth of fintech industries in both countries. The MEA noted that Starmer’s visit will build upon the momentum generated during PM Modi’s official visit to the UK on July 23-24. Both sides aim to reaffirm their shared vision of a forward-looking partnership that is mutually beneficial and strategically significant. The meetings will also provide an opportunity to exchange views on regional and global issues, including security challenges, climate change, and international cooperation in science and technology. Officials emphasized that the visit will strengthen the framework of collaboration between India and the UK and provide concrete outcomes in trade, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. By engaging directly with business leaders, policymakers, and industry experts, both governments aim to ensure that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership translates into tangible benefits for citizens and contributes to sustainable development. Starmer’s first official visit underscores the growing importance of India-UK relations and the commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation across strategic, economic, and social dimensions. The discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for future initiatives and reinforce long-term collaboration in line with shared goals and mutual interests.
