New Delhi, November 3, 2025 President Droupadi Murmu marked the silver jubilee of Uttarakhand’s formation with an address to a special session of the state Legislative Assembly in Dehradun, celebrating 25 years of resilience, growth, and inclusive development. Reflecting on the state’s journey since 2000, she praised Uttarakhand’s advances in literacy, healthcare, governance, and women’s empowerment, saying the state had balanced progress with preservation of its natural and cultural heritage. “Legislators are the bridge between the people and the government,” President Murmu said, urging members to uphold integrity, transparency, and empathy while serving citizens. She lauded Uttarakhand’s milestone of appointing its first woman Speaker, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, as a symbol of gender empowerment and democratic maturity. Applauding the Assembly for its legislative achievements, she commended its passage of over 550 bills rooted in fairness and social justice, including the Anti-Cheating Bill, the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Bill, and the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill. President Murmu also praised the state for becoming the first to implement the Uniform Civil Code, describing it as a constitutional step toward equality and harmony. She highlighted Uttarakhand’s achievements in renewable energy, tourism, digital transformation, and infrastructure, calling them hallmarks of good governance. “The state’s human development indices continue to improve. With the spirit of ‘Nation First,’ I am confident that Uttarakhand will keep moving forward,” she said. Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd) echoed her sentiments, noting the role of women, youth, and ex-servicemen in shaping the state’s growth story. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude for the President’s visit, calling her words an inspiration for the next 25 years. President Murmu is on a three-day tour of Uttarakhand, attending the 125th anniversary of the Raj Bhavan in Nainital and the 20th convocation of Kumaun University. As the state prepares to celebrate its silver jubilee on November 9, 2025, her visit underscored the deep connection between Uttarakhand’s spirit of devotion—its Devbhoomi identity—and its ongoing pursuit of sustainable, inclusive progress.
