Married Woman Shot Inside Gurugram Club After Rejecting Marriage Proposal; Two Accused Arrested
Gurugram, December 26: A 25-year-old married woman was shot inside a club in Gurugram after she allegedly refused a marriage proposal from a man who had befriended her several months ago, police said on Thursday. The incident, which took place in the early hours of December 20, has raised serious concerns about safety at nightlife venues in the city. According to the police, the firing occurred at a club located on MG Road around 1 am. Authorities received information about a woman being injured in a shooting incident and rushed to the spot. The victim was found admitted to a private hospital, where doctors said she was initially not in a condition to give her statement. The woman was later identified as Kalpana, a 25-year-old resident of Najafgarh in Delhi. Her husband lodged a complaint at the Sector 29 police station, stating that his wife worked at a club in Gurugram. In his statement, he said that Kalpana had gone to work on the night of December 19 and called him around 1 am to inform him that she had been shot. Based on the complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an investigation into the matter. The husband further told the police that about a month ago, the accused had come to their house, created a scene, and had a heated argument before leaving. This information helped the police narrow down their search. During the investigation, a special crime unit team tracked and arrested two accused — Tushar alias Jonty, aged 25, and his friend Shubham alias Jony, aged 24. Both are residents of Sangam Vihar in Delhi. They were arrested from Baraut in Uttar Pradesh after the police received specific leads about their location. During interrogation, police said Tushar revealed that he had befriended the victim around six months ago. Over time, he developed feelings for her and expressed his desire to marry her. However, the woman repeatedly refused his proposal, telling him that she was already married and not interested. Police alleged that on the night of December 19, Tushar, along with his friend Shubham, went to the club where the woman was working. There, Tushar allegedly proposed to her once again. When she refused, an argument reportedly followed, after which Tushar allegedly shot her inside the club and fled the scene with his accomplice. The injured woman was immediately taken to a hospital by club staff and others present at the scene. Doctors provided emergency treatment, and her condition has since stabilised, police said. Her statement is expected to play a key role in the investigation as more details emerge. Senior police officials said that both accused are currently in custody and are being questioned to understand the sequence of events, the source of the weapon used in the crime, and whether anyone else was involved. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the club and nearby areas to gather further evidence. “The accused have been arrested and strict legal action will be taken. Further investigation is underway,” a police official said. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over women’s safety, stalking, and rejection-driven violence. Police have assured that they will ensure justice for the victim and take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. As the investigation continues, authorities have urged people to report threats or harassment at the earliest so timely action can be taken before disputes turn violent.
