New Delhi | 23 January 2026 India’s powerful S-400 air defence system, which played a key role during the military conflict with Pakistan last year, will be showcased for the first time at the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2026. The system will be part of the Department of Military Affairs tableau at Kartavya Path, highlighting India’s growing defence strength. Air Commodore Manish Sabharwal confirmed that the S-400 was effectively deployed during Operation Sindoor. The importance of the S-400 came into focus after Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh stated in August last year that India’s S-400 system had shot down five Pakistani fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. The operation was launched to target terror infrastructure following the April 22 Pahalgam attack. The display at the parade is expected to underline India’s air defence capabilities and preparedness. This year, the Department of Military Affairs will present the “Tri-Services Tableau – Operation Sindoor”, showcasing the strong coordination and joint operational success of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar will lead the parade for the fourth consecutive year. Major General Navraj Dhillon said that around 6,050 military personnel will take part, along with advanced military assets such as Bhairav, Shaktibaan, UGV, and ATAGS. A total of 30 tableaux will roll down Kartavya Path during the 77th Republic Day parade, including 17 from States and Union Territories and 13 from various Ministries and Departments. According to the Ministry of Defence, this year’s celebrations will follow the themes “Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram” and “Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat”. The tableaux will reflect 150 years of Vande Mataram, India’s cultural diversity, and the nation’s progress towards self-reliance, with participation from states like Assam, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and key central ministries.
