Government Ready for Parliament Discussion on NEET Paper Leak

New Delhi, July 22, 2026 The Centre has reiterated its willingness to hold a detailed discussion in Parliament on the NEET paper leak controversy, amid continued political exchanges over the issue. Government sources said the administration remains committed to transparency, a fair investigation, and addressing concerns related to the examination while ensuring justice for students. According to government sources, action was initiated soon after the alleged paper leak surfaced. They said Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took moral responsibility and introduced corrective measures, while a CBI investigation is underway. More than 13 accused have been arrested so far, and the government has assured strict action against those found guilty. Sources also described the Opposition's demand for the minister's resignation as "politically motivated." Speaking on the issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said strong action had been taken against those involved in the "grave sin" of paper leaks so that no one could play with the future of the youth. He said the matter is "not a matter of party politics but a matter of national interest," urging the Centre and state governments to work together. According to sources, the Prime Minister also stressed that there should be no injustice to students and that the government remains focused on safeguarding their future. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi demanded the resignations of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Home Minister Amit Shah over the controversy, along with a discussion in Parliament and action over the alleged crackdown on protesting students. Responding to the criticism, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Even after the government conveyed its readiness for a comprehensive discussion, the Congress chose political spectacle over democratic debate. Their objective was never solutions for students, it was disruption for political headlines." The Centre has maintained that it is prepared for a comprehensive parliamentary discussion as the investigation into the matter continues.
