NCC’s 79-Km Cyclothon Sends Strong Message on Fitness & Green India
New Delhi, August 02, 2026 Promoting fitness, environmental responsibility and a spirit of nation-building, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) organised Cyclothon-2026 in New Delhi on August 2, 2026, marking 79 years of India’s Independence. Held under the theme **‘Swachh Bharat, Harit Bharat, Fit Bharat’**, the initiative encouraged young people to embrace healthy and sustainable lifestyles while reinforcing values of patriotism, discipline, unity and service to the nation. Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister **Mansukh Mandaviya** flagged off the Cyclothon. Defence Minister of State Sanjay Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, celebrated boxer M.C. Mary Kom and renowned tennis player Leander Paes were also present. To symbolise 79 years of Independence, NCC Director General Lieutenant General Virendra Vats joined a group of 79 cadets in a symbolic 79-kilometre cycling ride. The event began at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, passed through key locations in the national capital and concluded at the same venue. Through the Cyclothon, the NCC reiterated its commitment to national campaigns including **‘TB Mukt Bharat’, ‘Swachh Bharat’, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’**. The event also promoted cycling as an eco-friendly and sustainable mode of transport, encouraging citizens to reduce carbon emissions, protect the environment and adopt healthier lifestyles. More than a cycling event, Cyclothon-2026 became a platform for promoting fitness, road safety, environmental awareness and responsible citizenship. The initiative encouraged young people to become agents of positive social change through discipline, teamwork, perseverance and community service, giving fresh momentum to the vision of a healthy, green and empowered India.
