New Delhi, August 09, 2026 India on Friday paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifice became defining elements of the country’s independence movement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered those associated with the Quit India Movement and the Kakori Train Action, highlighting their determination to challenge colonial rule and their enduring contribution to the nation’s freedom struggle. Recalling the historic Quit India Movement, PM Modi said in a post on X, “Remembering all those who participated in the historic Quit India Movement. Their courage will always remain an inspiration for every Indian. Inspired by the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi Ji, the clarion call of Quit India infused new energy into our freedom struggle and reflected the unwavering determination of our people to break free from colonial rule.” The movement was launched under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership on August 8, 1942, and went on to become one of the most significant phases of India’s struggle for independence. Amit Shah described it as a historic movement that brought people together and strengthened the resolve to follow the “Do or Die” call in the fight against British rule. Shah also remembered the freedom fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, saying that the occasion of the August Revolution should motivate citizens to keep national interest above everything else, promote Swadeshi, advance self-reliance and contribute to the vision of a developed India. Rajnath Singh termed the Quit India Movement an immortal chapter of Indian history, saying it reflected the collective strength, determination and firm belief in freedom demonstrated by the people. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi, the martyrs and other freedom fighters, Singh said their dedication and sacrifices represented an important part of India’s national heritage. He added that creating a strong, prosperous, self-reliant and developed India would be a genuine tribute to those who fought for independence. The two Union ministers also paid homage to the revolutionaries connected with the Kakori Train Action. Shah described the incident as an unforgettable episode that provided renewed momentum to the armed revolutionary struggle against British injustice and oppression. He said the revolutionaries displayed through their courage and commitment that the country’s resources rightfully belonged to its people. Singh said the Kakori action represented more than an act of resistance against colonial authority; it also reflected the determination of the young revolutionaries of that period to dedicate themselves completely to the cause of a free India. He paid tribute to Chandrashekhar Azad, Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan and their comrades, stressing that their sacrifices serve as a reminder of the immense struggle behind India’s independence. The tributes to the Quit India Movement and Kakori revolutionaries underline the scale of sacrifice that shaped India’s journey to freedom.
