Massive Drone Attack Sets Wildberries Warehouse Ablaze

New Delhi, August 16, 2026 A large-scale overnight drone assault on Russia’s Moscow region has caused major disruption after a fire broke out at a logistics warehouse belonging to Wildberries, the country’s largest online retailer. The incident highlights how the ongoing drone campaign is increasingly affecting major commercial and logistics infrastructure. The attack occurred in the early hours of August 16, with Moscow regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov calling it one of the biggest drone attacks on the region in recent memory. According to the Associated Press, at least six people were killed across Russia. The Wildberries logistics facility in Koledino, around 45 kilometres south of Moscow, was among the locations affected. Videos from the area showed flames spreading through parts of the warehouse while a huge column of smoke rose into the sky. Reuters also reported damage to another logistics facility in Domodedovo, near one of Moscow’s major airports. Wildberries confirmed on Telegram that a fire had broken out at its logistics facility following the attack. The company said employees had been evacuated beforehand in line with safety procedures. “Logistics operations have been rerouted; the acceptance of deliveries and the dispatch of orders are being handled at other facilities,” it said. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that its forces had intercepted 822 Ukrainian drones across the country. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 600 drones had been heading towards the capital. Vorobyov said air-defence and electronic-warfare systems had “shot down or neutralized 187 UAVs” across several districts, including Domodedovo and Podolsk. Wildberries has increasingly been linked to Ukraine’s drone campaign, with Ukrainian authorities alleging that some of its logistics facilities have been used to transport military-related equipment, including drone components and other supplies. Russia has denied those allegations, the BBC reported. Wildberries, founded in 2004 and headed by entrepreneur Tatyana Kim, operates a large e-commerce network that connects sellers and customers while managing storage, payments and deliveries. Several of its logistics locations have reportedly come under attack in recent weeks, increasing pressure on the company’s distribution network. The latest strike demonstrates the widening impact of the conflict, with drone attacks reaching beyond military targets and affecting major economic and logistical operations. As Russia continues to report large-scale drone interceptions, incidents such as the Wildberries warehouse fire underline the growing security challenges facing critical commercial infrastructure.
