IAF, Japan Air Force Gear Up for Veer Guardian-2026

New Delhi, September 08, 2026 India and Japan are set to strengthen their defence partnership through Veer Guardian-2026, a bilateral air exercise focused on improving operational coordination, tactical proficiency and interoperability between their air forces. The 14-day exercise will bring frontline fighter aircraft and personnel from both countries together for advanced training and professional exchanges. The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF) will conduct the exercise at Air Force Station Jodhpur from September 9 to September 22, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Tuesday. The IAF will deploy its LCA Tejas, Su-30MKI and Rafale fighter aircraft, while the JASDF will participate with its F-2A fighters. The exercise will include advanced operational missions designed to enhance interoperability between the two air forces. Participating personnel will also take part in mission-planning conferences and subject-matter expert exchanges, along with discussions on engineering practices and aerospace safety. These engagements are aimed at improving operational coordination and facilitating the exchange of professional expertise. The Ministry of Defence said Veer Guardian-2026 reflects the deepening strategic partnership between India and Japan and will help enhance tactical capabilities and aerospace operational synergy. The exercise will also reinforce the longstanding friendship and strategic cooperation between the two countries, while providing both sides with an opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding and operational capabilities.
