New Delhi, September 12, 2026 Forensic examination of electronic devices seized from jailed former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna has reportedly uncovered dozens of pornographic videos on his mobile phone, raising fresh questions over how a prohibited device reached his prison cell. The phone and a pen drive were recovered during a Crime Branch raid at the Bengaluru central prison last month after Revanna was found using a mobile phone inside his cell. Both devices were subsequently sent for forensic examination. The report has now found dozens of pornographic videos on the phone, while the pen drive contained web series. The recovery has also brought renewed attention to allegations of special treatment for high-profile inmates inside Bengaluru’s central prison. Following the discovery of the phone, a jail official was suspended and authorities ordered an investigation into how the device entered Revanna’s cell. Revanna was convicted last year of raping a 48-year-old woman and circulating videos of the sexual assault. The woman, who worked as domestic help at the Revanna family’s farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Hassan district, alleged that he had repeatedly raped her since 2021. She also alleged that he recorded the assaults and threatened to make the videos public if she spoke about them. The latest forensic findings have added another layer to the controversy surrounding Revanna’s time in custody. Personal mobile phones, SIM cards and electronic communication devices are prohibited inside prisons, with permitted communication limited to monitored institutional landlines, public call offices or designated video-calling facilities. The discovery of the devices has therefore intensified scrutiny of prison security and the safeguards meant to prevent such access.
